We’ve diversified our company away from straight PR services into digital publishing.
The move into digital publishing came as we saw that vast numbers of readers we wanted our campaigns to reach were increasingly going online for content, the Mailonline, for example, receives 14.1 million unique users a day and 203 million a month compared to 1.4 million daily print sales.
With this in mind our exports adventure had taken us to work in Oman with Oman Drydock and Oman Shipping. During our travels around Oman we were struck by the strength of the trading and historical ties dating back centuries between the UK and Oman, plus the large ex pat population of around 10,000 in Muscat. However, there was a general sense among the people we met that Anglo-Omani relations, and the spectacular beauty of Oman, were not very well known in the UK. To try and raise awareness of the special relationship we launched the first UK Oman news website www.OmanGBnews.com in August 2014.
OmanGBnews quickly generated lots of interesting news and we knew we had hit on something when a Tweet from OmanGB’s Twitter feed received thousands and thousands of views.
As a result of building momentum in 2015 we decided to launch a sister site www.IndiaGBnews.com. This has naturally proved to be an even bigger operation and within months Brexit had thrust India UK relations to their most significant, point probably since independence in 1947.
Both GBnews sites are now flourishing and have taken our team on new adventures meeting lots of interesting people in fascinating places – again improving our knowledge and ability to help clients by offering a wider network. Highlights include reporting the Modi May Tech summit in in Delhi, Meeting the Maharana of Mewar at his Palace in Udaipur and attending royal receptions with Prince Charles and Prince Andrew with the Anglo Omani Society.
As well as providing a platform to reflect the genuine bonds between the countries the GB websites are also a new way for Polaris to demonstrate a key strength of ours – the news sense and writing ability of our PR team, who are all trained and qualified journalists and do a fantastic job for our clients.
Our news websites now offer a great way for our clients and contacts to promote what they do in a vibrant, informed context to hard to reach audiences. They fundamentally improve the value of Polaris’ services which is so important as the media and PR industry changes with the shockwaves on the digital revolution.
Meanwhile, the timing of the websites entirely by accident could not have been better coming just before Brexit hit – thrusting the ‘old friend’ countries like Oman and India to the forefront of the UK’s future trading relations.
